In the digital age,  there is an increasing concern of the omnipresent technology – it is blamed for complicating everything. People recalled the old golden times of blue ridge mountain and Shenandoah river; they want yesterday once more without annoying technology. Although, I definitely do not value the past offline utopia, the consequence of technology on our lives is worth discussing.

It is admitted that to some extent, technology makes life more complicated than necessary. Compared with just several decades ago, the overloaded information have exhausted us within years. Every single day, people are bombarded with APP notification, emails, and social media messages, such as we-chat and weibo in China. Reports have showed that the average time consumed on we-chat is 40 minutes, since it extended your real needs. No wonder some people argued that technology makes tasks easier, but it does not make our lives easier. We are missing in the Matrix.

However, should we shift to reverse gear due to IT overloading? The answer is NO. The old tech-free times is not Plato’s ideal republic. People live harder, not simpler. The modern technology has virtually spoiled human beings; how can we easily forget the misery of past laborious days and even starts to cherish it. If we use VR to create a tech vacuum world, within a week, people will complain the physical distance and long travelling time from Beijing to New York, and be frustrated by the slow mailing which they can accomplish with just one click on the internet, then dash back to hug all the tech gadgets.

From a rational perspective, technology can make life complicated only as we allow it.  The critical point is to develop a better self control and information processing ability. All technological knowledge and electronic devices are an advantage for becoming a more efficient individual. Although smartphone is disrupting in some situations, but without it, you would probably be unable to recall your to-do list and manage your work flow. If we can decode and employ technology, our life will be more efficient, cheaper, simpler and faster.

To conclude, technology is only complicate if we don't know how to use it to make our lives simpler, and the past “simple” life can not compare. The progression of technology is unstoppable; we should look ahead and master it.
